About This Site

cover.gif ImageThe 7th Edition of In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood by Dr. Walt Brown is available to order here. It can also be read or printed out at this website; just use the links at the left to navigate through the outline of the entire book.

Since the 7th Edition was published in April 2001, hundreds of new developments have been added throughout the draft of the 8th Edition which is at this website. The 8th Edition should be published in about June of 2008.

  • A new chapter, “The Origin of the Grand Canyon” begins on page 178.
  • Global warming is addressed on page 342.
  • Other new sections begin on pages 323, 329, and 367.
  • Living bacteria have been found in meteorites. For details and to see how this relates to the global flood, go to page 290. This amazing discovery does not mean that life on earth came from outer space.
  • Prediction 1 of the hydroplate theory, first published in 1980, appears to have been confirmed: A one-mile-thick layer of salt water has been detected 10 miles below the Tibetan Plateau. For details, see page 118.
  • Prediction 19—that salt would be discovered in water drainage channels on Mars—was first published in 2001. That discovery was announced in March 2004. For details, see page 269.
  • To fully understand the above discoveries, read Part II, beginning on page 100.
  • Item 94, “Solar Fuel,” and Item 95, “Shrinking Sun,” which were on page 34 of the hardbound version of the book, have been removed from the web version of the book. Experiments conducted at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory in Ontario, Canada, in June, 2001, discovered characteristics of neutrinos that explained this 30-year-old mystery.

About the Author

WaltBrown.jpg ImageWalt Brown received a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he was a National Science Foundation Fellow. He has taught college courses in physics, mathematics, and computer science. Brown is a retired full colonel (Air Force), West Point graduate, and former Army Ranger and paratrooper. Assignments during his 21 years in the military included: Director of Benét Laboratories (a U.S. Army research, development, and engineering facility) near Albany, New York; tenured associate professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy; and Chief of Science and Technology Studies at the Air War College. For much of his life Walt Brown was an evolutionist, but after years of study, he became convinced of the scientific validity of creation and a global flood. Since retiring from the military, Dr. Brown has been the Director of the Center for Scientific Creation. He devotes full time to teaching, research, and writing on creation and the flood.

For those who wish to know more about Walt Brown, a new book (Christian Men of Science: Eleven Men Who Changed the World by George Mulfinger and Julia Mulfinger Orozco) devotes a chapter to Brown. It may be read by clicking here.

Written Debate

The issue is: Does the scientific evidence favor creation or evolution? Dr. Brown’s standing offer for a strictly scientific, written, and publishable debate is on page 406. Note that a few initially agreed to a strictly scientific debate, but later changed their minds, insisting they would only take part if the exchange included religion. One evolutionist is so upset that a written debate will not include religion that he now misleads by saying that Walt Brown has refused to debate him. (Correspondence in our files shows how he no longer wanted a strictly scientific debate after reading the 6th edition of this book.) Dr. Brown has consistently maintained his position for 28 years: the debate should be limited to scientific evidence. If someone says, “Walt Brown has refused to debate,” we suggest you ask to see that person’s signed debate agreement.

Recorded Phone Debate

For anyone who disagrees with the hydroplate theory (explained in Part II of this book), the recorded phone debate is appropriate. Anyone, regardless of their scientific credentials, can engage Dr. Brown, provided they have read the theory. For details, see page 409.

About the Book In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood

This greatly expanded new edition—comprehensive, understandable, and meticulously documented—will give insights to readers of all backgrounds. In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood takes a different look at a currently hot topic. Evidence that could revolutionize our understanding of origins is carefully explained. You will be challenged to consider fresh ideas in this age-old debate.

Part I of In the Beginning discusses, in quick overview, 131 categories of evidence from biology, astronomy, and the physical and earth sciences. More technical discussions and documentation are found in the author’s extensive endnotes.

  • Does the scientific evidence support evolution or creation?
  • What insights do genetics and the fossil record provide?
  • How old is the earth? What dating techniques indicate a young earth?
  • What discoveries in outer space relate to our beginnings?
  • Does Noah’s Ark exist? What is the CIA’s “Ararat Anomaly”?

Part II describes the hydroplate theory, developed during more than 35 years of study by Dr. Walt Brown, a former evolutionist. This theory explains a catastrophic event in earth’s history and answers a host of previously unexplained questions raised by physical observations. For decades, evolutionists complained that creationists only criticized evolution and did not offer sound scientific theories of their own. The hydroplate theory ends that complaint and explains, with overwhelming evidence, earth’s defining geological event—a worldwide flood.

  • If there was a global flood, where did the water come from? Where did it go?
  • How did the Grand Canyon form?
  • How did mountains, submarine canyons, and ocean trenches form?
  • What suddenly froze and buried the mammoths?  How could they have lived inside the Arctic Circle?
  • How did rock strata and fossils form?
  • How did comets, asteroids, and meteoroids form?
  • What scientific discoveries have been predicted by the hydroplate theory?

Thirty-seven other frequently asked questions fill a fascinating Part III, including:

  • What about the dinosaurs?
  • Have scientific tools detected Adam and Eve within us?
  • How can the study of creation be scientific?
  • Is evolution compatible with the Bible?
  • How accurate is radiocarbon dating?
  • Is there life in outer space?
  • Galaxies are billions of light-years away, so isn’t the universe billions of years old?
